Bear Wood supplies wooden horse stables in all five Flemish provinces, both as a standard model and fully bespoke. Below is an overview by region: what we supply, popular types, and how we work with your local context.
West Flanders
- Coverage: the whole province
- Popular: bespoke stables for riding centres along the coast
- Note: salt air calls for more resistant species (thermowood, impregnated Douglas fir)
East Flanders
- Coverage: the whole province
- Popular: smaller 1-3 box stables for recreational horse owners
- Note: many private farmsteads, bespoke more often than standard
Antwerp
- Coverage: the whole province, including the Kempen
- Popular: mid-sized stables (2-4 boxes) for semi-professional owners
- Note: land is cheaper in the Kempen → larger footprints are common
Flemish Brabant
- Coverage: the whole province
- Popular: the premium segment, in padauk and oak
- Note: villa gardens with a horse section, where looks weigh more heavily than pure function
Limburg
- Coverage: the whole province
- Popular: larger stables for rural settings, including paddock access
- Note: agricultural zoning is more common — different permit requirements
What does not change by region?
- Standard lead time: 2-3 weeks for standard models, 3-5 weeks for bespoke
- Lowest Price Guarantee: valid everywhere
- Horse-specific requirements (ventilation, flooring, boarding): the same across Flanders
- Our process (sketch → quote → production): identical
Which horse stable approach suits you?

| You run a training yard (6+) or work professionally | Bespoke with a B2B track |
| You are building in a heritage zone | Bespoke with attention to heritage rules |
Common mistakes with a horse stable in every region
A horse stable is a health environment for the animal — not just a shed. Common mistakes:
- Poor ventilation. Insufficient air circulation causes respiratory problems (COPD, reduced performance). Standard good practice: roof or ridge ventilation, low wall openings for fresh air intake, and at least one large window per box.
- Wrong or too thin stall boarding. Horses kick walls, even unintentionally. Boarding under 30 mm thick cracks or splits. Continuous hardwood (oak, padauk) from 30 mm for visible parts, to a height of at least 1,4 m.
- Floor without a drainage fall. Urine that cannot drain causes hoof problems and odour. Plan a 1-2 % fall towards one drainage side, with a free-draining build-up (stabilised base and rubber mats).
- Misjudging the permit. Agricultural zoning follows different rules from a residential plot. Stables over 40 m² usually require an environmental permit. Check with the planning department beforehand.
Frequently asked questions — horse stables in every region
What is the minimum box size for one horse? 3,5×3,5 m as a minimum standard. For larger horses or longer stays (livery, training), 4×4 m is better. Box dimensions can be adjusted to measure.
How do I arrange good ventilation? A combination of ridge ventilation or a roof window (warm air out), low wall openings on the north or sheltered side (fresh air in), and at least one large window per box. Mechanical ventilation is an option for larger stables.
How long do delivery and production take? Standard models 2-3 weeks after the quote is confirmed. Bespoke stables 3-5 weeks — depending on complexity and the number of boxes.
Can a horse stable be fully bespoke? Yes. With horse stables, bespoke is the rule rather than the exception. Send us the number of horses, the available ground area, the extras you want (tack room, wash bay, hay storage) and your budget range — we will draw a first sketch within 3 working days.
Do you handle installation as well? For garden houses we have our own fitters. Bespoke horse stables are more often built by specialist firms — chosen in consultation.
Does the Lowest Price Guarantee apply? Yes. For a comparable offer (same species, specs, configuration, Belgian supplier) we match our price on proof of a better quote.
