Bespoke stable – durable wooden stables entirely to your wishes
A bespoke stable offers the perfect combination of safety, comfort and durability for your horses. At Bear Wood we design and build bespoke wooden stables, fully tailored to your yard, the space available and your personal preferences. Every stable is prepared in our own workshop, so we can guarantee a robust, accurate and durable structure. Whether you choose an affordable model, a self-build kit or a luxuriously finished stable: a bespoke stable from Bear Wood offers years of enjoyment and can be extended with many options.
Single-skin stables – affordable, strong and ideal for self-build
Our single-skin bespoke stables are built from tongue-and-groove boards and are an excellent budget solution without compromising on quality. Thanks to easy assembly, these stables are ideal for self-build. We can put together a complete bespoke self-build kit for you, including all the timber required. Even a fully hardwood self-build stable is possible, giving an extremely durable, low-maintenance structure.
Double-skin bespoke stable – sturdier, more luxurious and fully customisable
Insulation and professional finish
If you are looking for extra stability, insulation and finishing options, choose a double-skin bespoke stable. These stables are built from a sturdy timber frame, clad on the inside with shuttering plywood and finished on the outside with cladding of your choice. The big advantage of this build-up is that the stable is considerably sturdier and that areas such as a wash bay or tack room can easily be insulated. A double-skin stable can also be built yourself, but it requires a little more work and material than a single-skin bespoke stable.
Fully bespoke and visually matched to your yard
A double-skin stable comes close to a full bespoke timber outbuilding. This means all shapes, designs and roof types are possible. These stables are often built close to the house, where appearance plays an important role. Bear Wood prepares every element in advance in its own workshop, making bespoke work the standard.
Roofing for your bespoke stable
The type of roof determines both the look and the durability of your bespoke stable. Popular choices are:
- Steel sheets (affordable, with anti-condensation or insulated version)
- EPDM flat roof (modern and extremely durable)
- Mono-pitch roof or gable roof
- Roof tiles, shingles or tile-profile sheets

Wood species for stables – durability & appearance
European harder species
- Douglas fir, larch and oak – excellent natural durability (10–20 years untreated)
- Thermally modified wood – ecological, dimensionally stable and low-maintenance
Treated species
- Pine or Douglas fir – affordable, 15–25 years service life
Tropical hardwood for maximum service life
Hardwood species such as azobé, ipe, padauk and massaranduba offer a service life of 25–30+ years. These species are ideal for intensive use and professional settings.
