Whether your facade stands in Knokke-Heist or in the Limburg mining belt — Bear Wood supplies timber cladding in all five Flemish provinces, standard in 2-3 weeks from the confirmed quote. What changes by region? The most popular species and the local climate. Below is the overview guide.
Coverage by province
West Flanders (postcode 8xxx): coverage out to Knokke, Ostend, Ypres, Diksmuide. Most popular species along the coast: thermowood and impregnated Douglas fir (salt and wind call for extra resistance).
East Flanders (9xxx): coverage out to Ghent, Dendermonde, Aalst, Ronse. Padauk and thermowood dominate. Facades in the centre of Ghent sometimes follow extra local rules (within the historic perimeter).
Antwerp (2xxx): coverage out to Herentals, Geel, Turnhout and the Kempen. In an urban setting (Antwerp-Zurenborg, Berchem, Borgerhout) thermowood is popular for modern interventions; for new build in the Kempen, padauk is a frequent choice.
Flemish Brabant (1xxx and 3xxx): coverage including Leuven, Tienen, Diest, Halle, Vilvoorde. Popular: hardwood and padauk for villas around Leuven and the Pajottenland.
Limburg (3xxx): coverage out to Hasselt, Genk, Maaseik, Tongeren and Maasmechelen. Popular: Douglas fir for a rural setting.
What differs by Flemish region?
Three factors shape your choice: 1. Climate — the coast has salt and wind, the polders a lot of damp, the Kempen a lot of sun. Each calls for a different species. 2. Building style — new build in the Kempen is often clean and modern → thermowood works well. Old patrician houses along the Scheldt → padauk, which weathers beautifully. 3. Permit regime — every Flemish municipality follows the Flemish environment portal, but a few (Bruges, the centre of Ghent, the core zone of Antwerp, the inner city of Leuven) have additional local regulations.
Delivery across Flanders
Delivery is a standard 2-3 weeks from the confirmed quote, whatever the province. Delivery cost is calculated at checkout from the postcode. Collection is possible at several locations in Flanders — exactly which location is available depends on the species and the volume of your order.

Common mistakes in a facade project in Flanders
A facade renovation lasts 20+ years if the basics are right. Four pitfalls we regularly see customers in and around Flanders fall into:
- The wrong species for the local climate. Untreated spruce or Douglas fir without protection goes through within a few years in a damp zone. For a long service life, choose padauk or thermowood, or actively plan annual maintenance with the cheaper species.
- Substructure at the wrong centre spacing. Too wide a gap between battens leads to sagging boards and visible waves after a few seasons. Keep 40-60 cm centre to centre, depending on board thickness and wind load.
- No ventilation space behind the cladding. Timber needs air to release moisture. Open joints of 3-5 mm and a substructure at least 22 mm thick are standard good practice.
- Skipping the permit or notification. Where the facade mass stays the same, a notification through the environment portal usually suffices. For character-defining buildings an additional opinion often applies. Ignoring both leads to a penalty payment or a stop-work order.
Frequently asked questions — cladding in Flanders
Which species suits my facade best? Three common choices for Flanders: padauk (25-30 years’ service life, virtually maintenance-free, weathers to grey naturally), thermowood (20-25 years, dark brown, oil every 2-3 years) and Douglas fir (15-20 years impregnated, annual protection to keep the colour). Send us a photo of your facade and your preferred style — we will match the right option.
How long does delivery take? Standard 2-3 weeks after the quote is confirmed. Delivery cost is calculated at checkout from your postcode and volume.
Roughly what does cladding cost per m²? Indicative material prices vary sharply by species: from around €45/m² for Douglas fir, about €65/m² for thermowood and €95/m² for padauk (boards only, excluding substructure and fixings). A complete material price for your m² figure comes with the quote.
Can I combine insulation with timber cladding? Yes. In a renovation where you are opening up the facade anyway, this is the ideal moment to fit rock wool or wood fibre board between the batten structure. State in your quote request that you want to include insulation.
Do you offer collection as an alternative to delivery? Yes, collection is possible at one of our locations in Flanders. Which location is available depends on species and volume — we arrange that after your order.
Does the Lowest Price Guarantee apply here too? Yes. Found an identical offer (same species, specs, volume, Belgian supplier) cheaper elsewhere? Send us the quote. We will match our price.
