Structural timber in Flanders: for contractors, joiners and DIYers

Bear Wood serves three customer groups for structural timber across Flanders: professional contractors working across several sites, self-employed joiners with a few projects a month, and private customers with a one-off project. For each group the best approach to ordering, delivery and price agreements differs.

For professional contractors

With recurring deliveries or volume orders:

  • A B2B account with a dedicated contact is possible
  • Quarterly price agreements for regular species
  • Delivery direct to several sites can be coordinated
  • Invoicing via PEPPOL (electronic invoicing, EU standard)

Contact us for a B2B introduction.

For self-employed joiners

Usually projects of €1.500 to €5.000 per order:

  • Standard delivery terms (2-3 weeks)
  • Technical support available for material selection
  • Collection at various locations in Flanders is possible — handy for several small projects

For private customers with a one-off project

  • One quote request, one delivery
  • A complete materials list based on your drawing or description
  • Advice on which species suits the purpose

Delivery and distribution in Flanders

Standard 2-3 weeks, for every Flemish province. Delivery cost is calculated at checkout from postcode and volume. Collection is possible at several locations in Flanders — which location is available depends on your order.

Quality and FSC

All our timber comes with a clear origin. For tropical species (padauk, ipé), always FSC. For European species (Douglas fir, larch, spruce), certificates are available on request.

Lowest Price Guarantee for B2B and B2C

Found an identical offer (same species, class, volume, Belgian supplier) cheaper? Send us the quote. We will match — valid for private and business orders alike.

Common mistakes in structural timber projects in Flanders

A structural timber project has to carry for decades. Mistakes we see customers make:

  • The wrong strength class for the application. C18 under a carport truss with a heavy roof is too light — choose C24. The other way round: C24 for a light pergola is expensive overkill. Ask which class suits what you are building.
  • Beams or trusses spanning too far unsupported. Every section has an ideal maximum span. Too long means deflection and cracking within a few years. Stick to the section tables or ask for a calculation.
  • The wrong fixing diameter. A 6 mm screw in a joint that calls for 8 mm gives a loose structure within 2 years. Stainless A2 is standard, A4 for damper zones.
  • Not allowing for swelling and shrinkage. Timber moves with temperature and moisture. Leave play at joints and butt ends — tight assembly leads to cracking.

Frequently asked questions — structural timber in Flanders

What exactly does C24 mean? C24 is a strength class for load-bearing timber — calibrated and certified for specific load capacities. For posts and trusses in carports, canopies and pool houses, C24 is standard. For non-load-bearing uses (decorative battens, visible cladding) a lower class is adequate.

Do I need FSC-certified timber? For tropical species (padauk, ipé, bangkirai) always insist on FSC — it is the only guarantee against illegal or irresponsible logging. For local European timber (Douglas fir, larch, spruce) FSC is often less critical, because EU forest oversight is already strict.

How long does delivery take? Standard 2-3 weeks after the quote is confirmed. Delivery cost visible at checkout, based on postcode and volume.

Can I request just a materials list? Yes. Send a sketch or description (dimensions, spans, purpose) — we will produce a complete materials list with the right sections and strength classes.

Does delivery work for large volumes and B2B too? Yes. For recurring deliveries or volume orders a B2B account is available with a dedicated contact, quarterly agreements and PEPPOL invoicing.

Does the Lowest Price Guarantee apply? Yes. Found an identical offer (same species, class, volume, Belgian supplier) cheaper elsewhere? Send us the quote — we will match.
